Camera Shots

There are many different types of camera shots used in a production, some of these include:

Extreme Long Shot: this is when the camera is placed a long distance away, it is often used for a scene setting or establishing shot. it usually shows the surroundings and location of the production.

Long Shot: this is when the camera shows the entire body of a character with their surroundings behind them.

Medium Shot: this is when the camera shows a character from the knees and upward. a small amount of surroundings and background are revealed as the camera is mainly focused on the character and the dialogue.

Close Up: this is when the camera zooms in on a character and concentrates only on their face, it is used to portray the characters facial expression and reveals very little background.

Extreme Close Up Shot: this is when the camera has magnified a characters face, it is often used to show the mouth or eyes of a character and creates a dramatic effect. it does not reveal the background or surroundings whatsoever.

Point of View Shot: this is when the camera shows the production from a characters point of view.

Over the Shoulder Shot: this is when a camera is placed just above the shoulder of one character while also revealing the full face of another. it is often used in conversations to portray the characters feelings and reactions.
