Font Analysis

Psycho Font

the font of Psycho is extremely eye catching, the words PSYCHO is spelled out in capital letters to attract viewers and so it can stand out. the colour of the font is white, white is often associated with purity and innocence so it could be used to show the innocence of the victims. furthermore the white is used so that it can stand out amongst the dark black background. this dark background can be used to represent danger and can portray that something dark and evil is hidden. also the crack cutting through the middle of the title makes the title rather unpleasant and can be used to represent to the viewer that there is danger lurking. furthermore the cut also looks like a knife slit, cutting through the word. this can be to portray that there is something sinister in the film a murder is going to take place. this font matches the title well as it shows the viewer that there is some kind of mad murderer praying and slashing at innocent victims.

Jaws Font

the font of jaws certainly shows that the film is of a thriller genre. firstly the bright bold red is used to indicate danger, anger and blood. Also, like Psycho, the title is in capital letters. this is so it can stand out and catch the viewers eye. the edges of the font are sharp yet wavy, this could be to represent Jaws because, since it is a large killer shark it will eat anything in sight also it has razor sharp teeth to rip its prey apart. the titles corners can be used to indicate Jaws and his incredibly large white teeth or even the first dorsal fin which is revealed slowly from within the water thus alerting the other characters. this gives the viewer a sense of danger.

Se7en

the font of the film Se7en is quite unnerving and  rather off putting. this shows the viewer that it is of a thriller genre. Again, the font is in capital letters as to make it catch the viewers eye and attracts them to watching the film. the font is quite tall and slim making it seem rather skinny and almost rather unhealthy. the font is slightly disorientated and blurry, this makes the title seem rather spooky and haunting. furthermore the dark brown background make the title look mysterious and uninviting. also the different words placed around the films title in different fonts create enigmas in the viewers mind. furthermore each word has a different font, this could be to show that the character/s are unorganised, angry and seem as though they are deranged, thus matching the context of the film perfectly.

                                                                        Children of Men

the font of Children of Men is rather eye catching and yet mysterious. the harshness of the red stands out and against the calm white. the word 'Children' are in a bright red whereas 'of Men' are in white. this could be to emphasis on the word 'Children' as they are a major part of the plot. furthermore children are usually associated with purity and innocence, however the red suggests that they are in danger. this contrasts with the words 'of Men'. men are usually seen as aggressive and violent however they are shown in white. this could be to portray that the tables have turned and so now the children are more dangerous than the men. however it could also be to show that men can also be innocent themselves. the title can also be used to create many enigmas in the viewers mind such as 'What is the main plot of the film?'.

  2. Maybe the word PSYCHO is split in two because Norman Bates has a split personality?
